1. A review of and solution to empty folder issue

   As I understand, it was optional to show folder size in SE but enabling it was slowing down folder listing significantly [1.1]. So, instead of computing size of folders, SE adopted a smart approach of looking in Android's file database, MediaStore [1.2]. Some users demanded to see the number of items in a folder next to folder size and this was also implemented [1.3].

   Currently, Solid Explorer can display total count and size of files contained in a folder including all subdirectories unlike other apps. However, accuracy of this information depends on Android’s media scanner. Android’s file database is updated instantly when doing copy & paste operations. However, a file doesn’t seem to be added to Android’s file database in a plausible time after an app creates that file [2.1, 2.2, 2.3]. Some users report that folder size bug is an old one [2.4, 2.5]. The problem seems to compromise FTP [2.3] and FTPS folders [2.6]. SE FAQ recommends waiting but waiting one hour doesn’t help to show that folders are not empty.

   Showing folder size is a useful feature of SE. It helps to see which folder is consuming much space and accuracy doesn’t matter much for this purpose. However, since users are inclined to delete empty folders [3.1], accuracy matters when a nonempty folder is about to be shown as empty. Some of my nonempty folders gone forever which are deleted based on this false information. Some users are waiting for recycle bin [no need for reference] and some users want to see size on confirmation dialog [3.5, 3.6, 3.7].

   I have some suggestions for empty folder issue. My first suggestion is that SE should continue to get folder size info from Android's file database. That is helpful although is not always accurate. However, total count of files can be replaced with accurate number of first level items. The original proposal of extending folder size info [1.3] didn’t mention to use total count of files but gave examples from an app that count only list first level items. The accurate number of first level items will be more informative than inaccurate number of total number of files. Already, there are many votes to skip amount of files in child folders [4.1]. Reporting the number of first level folders and files separately will also make many users happy [4.2]. So, instead of reporting two inaccurate data i.e. [3141 files | 303 MB], it is better to use at least one accurate data i.e. either [5 items | 303 MB] or [4 folders | 1 file | 303 MB]. This approach is also suitable for situations where folder size can’t be shown. SE choose not to display any count or size information about folders which Android's file database doesn’t provide information (i.e. cloud folders). However, displaying accurate number of first level items is better than displaying nothing.

   My second suggestion is a little experimental but I have to say it. I mentioned that there are some situations where Android's file database is not updated after an app creates a file. That file will not be added to database in a reasonable time because Android runs a full media scan only on reboot and when (re)mounting the sd card. However, it is possible to trigger media scanner even on specific folder [5.1, 5.2]. There is also an app called Media.Re.Scan for this purpose [5.3]. So, seeing a folder as empty even after waiting some time is not impossible to fix inside the app but may be cumbersome and frustrating.

3. Easier Read/Write Mount UI

   So in the previous SE app, you could easily mount a partition as R/W using the Quick Config option. In SE 2.0, you have to mess with permission attributes and know which ones you need to check/uncheck to mount as R/W. I'd like a suggest a UI similar to the one in the previous SE to make it easier. 4. "Folder Options" on per folder basis

   Just like being able to edit the "View Options" on per folder basis, why not allow this for "Folder Options" as well.

   What if I want hidden files to be shown just in a specific folder and not the entire file system. In this case, such a feature would be very handy.

6. Delete files with Gutmann method (optional)

   Hi,

   i want to delete some files properly and therefore Gutmann method would be a good solution to this.

   I think this delete method should only be optional to the normal method because it is only relevant for important data and it is not very fast.

7. Can't connect to FTP

   I can't connect to my FTP server. I'm not sure if Solid Explorer has a limitation that is not compatible with my server configuration.

   I connect using a DDNS name and a non-standard port (Not port 21). My server also requires TLS.

12. turn on the screen during copy/paste files

    When my phone turned off the screen during copy/paste files, stop paste or slow down paste speed. Phone that is used ram cleaner apps, turn off the screen stopping paste. I think this option is useful for lots of users.

13. mega cloud connection error

    I bought mega plugin. I filled my credentials and it accepted. However, the next step on connection has a problem. Mega cloud wants to know master password. I pasted my master password on plugin, there is no progress.

    Ps: I know differences my account pasword and master password.

14. Confused as to how to move folder to external SD

    Why does access to the sidebar disappear whenever I copy or cut a file or folder to clipboard? This isn't a problem if I'm copying or moving said file or folder to a folder/directory below original location, but as there is no ".." folder option, then access to the sidebar is mandatory. However, once I have item on clipboard, in am unable to open sidebar.

    Pratt fix this or add a ".." folder option.

15. Solid won't "see" external SD card on Chromebook

    First off, I've been a loyal Solid user since day one. Thanks for an awesome app! My question is, do you think it will be possible at some point for Solid to see the external sd card when installed on Chrome OS? I'm using a Chromebook Flip and Solid works AWESOME, but it only sees the internal storage, not the installed micro SD card. Thanks for any help you can offer!

16. problem in SMB (access denied)

    Cant copy files local to smb, stopped in 1~4%
    but I can to ftp. And other explorers (rootexplorer, ESexplorer) can do it too(both SMB and FTP).
    Please help

17. File search feature too vague and rudimentary.. think wildcards :)

    File search feature too vague.. it'd be srsly good with ISO date-time criteria, operators. wildcards and regex :) novices and casual users might find it ok but with SE having a serious place in a techie's toolbox I hope theres a chance to iron it out.
    Nothing on Android is perfect but SE kicks goals and time should flesh it so thanks for working so hard.. from for all of us!

19. Storage analyzer and hidden area

    Storage analyzer to view large files and provide easy option to move recycle bin or delete directly and hidden area to hide a folder, which should not be exposed in any other app/explorer even when we connected to our PC.

20. Can't browse through several pictures

    Say I go to DCIM/Camera and tap on one picture, it opens with the viewer of my choice (in my case I prefer QuickPic but I tried several others) and I can see the picture, but I can't slide to see the next one. Somehow Solid Explorer opens the app in a way that only the selected picture is viewable, like it was the only one available in a directory. Other file managers work well on this, I open a picture, then I can see all the other pictures from the viewer itself.
