Exploring the Southwest Airlines Terminal at Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is one of the busiest airports in the United States, serving as a major gateway to Florida’s world-famous attractions such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and the Kennedy Space Center. Among the many airlines operating out of MCO, Southwest Airlines holds a prominent position, offering extensive domestic connectivity and a passenger experience grounded in convenience, customer service, and affordability.
This blog provides an in-depth look at the Southwest terminal at MCO, exploring everything from check-in and security to amenities, dining, baggage claim, and tips for travelers flying in or out of Orlando with Southwest Airlines.
Overview of Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Before diving into Southwest’s specific terminal, it’s important to understand the layout of MCO. Unlike many major U.S. airports, MCO uses a unique layout featuring four airside concourses (A, B, C, and D) connected via a central terminal structure known as the Main Terminal. Each concourse is accessible by automated people movers (trams), and all passengers must pass through the central terminal building for check-in and security.
MCO has two sides for check-in:
Terminal A (Gates 1–59): Handles international and domestic flights for several airlines.
Terminal B (Gates 60–129): Hosts additional domestic and international carriers, including Southwest Airlines.
A third, more recently opened Terminal C, serves international airlines and several domestic carriers but is not used by Southwest.
